Mindful stylist Giedre Anužytė "The luxury and quality of modern life is an entirety"

If you read the meaning of the word STYLE in the dictionary, you will find another often mentioned word - the entirety, system. So when it comes to fashion or personal style, you want to talk about the whole.

Today, variations of the concept of style are widely used for marketing purposes, but as a fashion stylist and costume designer, I want to distract myself from massively pervasive ideas. We want to remind and speak out loud about the fact that style is formed gradually and often its quality will be determined not by the objects themselves or their price, and the brand, but by their coherence. Clothing style is influenced by time, technology, lifestyle characteristics, hobbies, climate, geographical location, even political and economic events. Fashion and media channels offer insights to stay current and discover new styles.

The OPINION of the vast majority about appearance is still formed as mass, and a truly unique personal style is still met with caution in Lithuania or may even be rejected. Distinctiveness is often linked to uniqueness or associated with exclusive small groups (for example, a person in the arts or entertainment world can “afford” to dress defiantly, while a civil servant or banker has very strict clothing protocols).

In nature, distinctiveness and outburst from your own species, for example due to a change in coat or feather color, is automatically rejected. In this case, exceptional appearance may reduce the chances of survival in the natural environment, as such animals are unable to find a partner, hide from enemies, or are alienated from their group, without whom they are often at risk of death.

Meanwhile, due to the greatly improved economic situation, people have a desire not only to adapt, but also to stand out. Now the media is just flashing messages about individuality and the search for authenticity. This paved the way for bolder appearances for cultural minorities and, as a result, created a place in the fashion world for a variety of figures, skin tones or clothing styles.

With great DIVERSITY and a culture of surplus, new challenges have emerged. People get lost and have a hard time catching an abundance of products, it is more difficult to evaluate the quality, the attitude towards strict clothing rules is changing, they are liberalizing. Dress codes expand or are ignored.

The relationship between quality and price becomes much more important, and more attention is paid to convenience or the desire to reveal one's authenticity. Even such widely used concepts as luxury are taking on new forms. If, for example, luxury used to be embellished with gold thread, expensive fabrics, well-known brand names, it is now more often associated with sustainably designed linen dresses ir linen shirts or support for local business.

In my opinion, the real luxury of living in such abundance today has become the choice to remain yourself. Ability to maintain authentic vision, make unique decisions. Without fear or prejudice, choose not a fashionable lifestyle, but one that is close to the heart. The pandemic slack slowed everyone down a bit, giving space to view not only the closets but also daily needs.

I personally always add NATURAL fabrics, quality, comfort, suitable silhouettes and most importantly to make the whole one happy. I check innovations much more carefully because they are not always better or more practical. I pay more attention to the local culture, supplementing it with aesthetic elements discovered or learned in other countries.

I reject more than I choose. I take it out of my shopping cart more often than I buy. And when I choose, I do it responsibly, because the closet is not rubber, but the backpack of my gypsy life holds even less.

In addition, every item has a certain responsibility.

Consider evaluating yourself in a full-length mirror. This will help you recognize which style details are worth staying or staying for a long time and what is only a temporary trend of the season.

I also remind you that authenticity is built on a solid quality base. It is revealed not only through appearance, but also through touch, smell, sound. Every time you choose, remember who you are or who you want to become in the future.

Take your time.

Stop more often and hear what your body, skin or glare in the mirror wants to tell you. Listen quietly to whether soft cotton or linen is right for you, or if you feel better when you are lined with linen clothes or gently wrapped in silk.

Be critical, but love, respect the environment and accept others and yourself with an open heart.

STYLE is not just about clothes. It consists of your lifestyle, posture, language style, hobbies. Style is complete harmony.
