INTERVIEW with #Persona.
Our first interviewee is Rita Bacytė-Starkuvienė. Rita is a photographer and today our model. Thank you so much for conveying our idea and being a true GRAND DUCHESS!! 💛
What does being yourself mean to you?
First of all, it means not trying to please others and not trying to look better, smarter and more important than I really am. There will always be those who can do better, more, always! But maybe that's my uniqueness.
I try to pursue my dreams, ideals and goals without wearing a mask, without being afraid of other people's opinions or criticism. When I learned to forgive myself for being imperfect, I also learned to breathe "with my mouth full". This simple act of being myself gives me the freedom to enjoy my life.
And has it been a long journey to the Rita we see today?
It's such a winding road, small steps and I'm still on the way to myself... But my main companions are courage and sincerity. Because only sincere people can be loved.
I won't hide the fact that sometimes I don't have the courage and I have to take that mask off, but I don't flatter myself, I just say "thank you" for that time the mask stood in my way.
It is said that "We meet according to the garment", do you agree with this idea?
Oh yes! Psychologists describe this phenomenon as the halo effect. There have even been many experiments where, for example, a man is dressed in a uniform, a cassock or a dressing gown and observes the reaction of the people around him.
Clothes give primary information about a person, even appealing to assumptions about a person's hobbies, characteristics, social status, etc.
I believe that there should be harmony between the inside and the outside of a person. Clothes only emphasize a person's character, mood, hobbies, lifestyle and inner experiences.
Do you use it in your life?
It's hard to say...
For me, clothes say quite a lot about a person, whether they are free, creative, enjoying life, or on the contrary - closed, sad, complex.
At this stage of my life, I try not to pay too much attention to that. If I do, it's because the person looks very stylish, which shows good taste, an interesting character, a vivid personality.
What kind of clothes do you have in your closet? How do you choose them? Do you buy spontaneously or deliberately? What is important to you?
My wardrobe is a combination of the past and the future. Mostly good brands and sustainable fashion, but often second-hand. I always prefer things with a story. 80% of my clothes and accessories come to me from brothels, friends, second-hand stores, Vinted, auctions... I've noticed that fast fashion and fast shopping has taken the joy out of it, so I try to slow down my shopping.
My wardrobe is a hobby for me, a love for the environment and the ability to buy less (because it takes time to find it). And my wallet likes it too 😊.
My style is not very deliberate, more spontaneous. For me, fashion is a game. I like to mix classic with sporty. I always prefer clothes that are timeless and necessarily comfortable.
You are the face of the Grand Duchess Iconic collection. Why did you agree to be it? What attracted you to these clothes?
When I found out it was a collection in linen, I couldn't resist. For me, linen clothes are about elegance, comfort, durability and the beauty of a natural material.
Plus, I always associate linen with holidays - it's sun, warmth and light.
I liked the fact that it's a ruby that you can roll around in at home, laze around in the backyard, go to the beach or go straight to the city.
With the Grand Duchess, you can discover many combinations of how to wear them. For example, you can wear the Iconic linen dress on its own or pair it with the Adventurer white linen shorts or the Independence linen pants. I love the colors, the unique patterns, the silhouettes, and the quality of the fabric.
I was a little shy myself, because I am not a professional model. But when I found out that my close friend Lina Aidukė (Lina Aidukė Photography) was going to take the photos, I didn't hesitate for a minute. I knew that the result would not disappoint.
What is your message to all modern princesses?
We live at a frenetic pace and we want to be perfect in all areas of life. And I suggest you stop and listen. What is most valuable to me in life, what do I want to support, what message do I want to carry about myself? That's how natural charm and style will emerge.
For me, a modern princess is a woman who is not afraid to wear the same clothes in public many times, and whose clothes reflect her values and character.
