If you open the dictionary and read the definition of the word STYLE, you’ll often find another related term - entirety. True style isn’t a single object or outfit; it’s a system, a complete expression of one’s personality and values.

In today’s world, STYLE is used everywhere - in marketing, branding and social media. But as a fashion stylist and costume designer, I want to pause and remind us that real style is built gradually. Its quality is not determined by price, labels or quantity, but by coherence and authenticity.

The true essence of personal style

Your clothing style is shaped by time, technology, lifestyle, hobbies, climate and culture - even by political or economic shifts. Fashion magazines and media trends may help us discover new ideas, but genuine personal style is born from self-awareness and consistency.

Unfortunately, in many places, including Lithuania, individuality in appearance is still approached with caution. A unique personal style can be misunderstood or even rejected. While artists and creators are often “allowed” to dress freely, professionals in more traditional roles may still feel constrained by rigid dress codes.

Yet, just as in nature, distinctiveness is what makes us evolve. What once isolated the bold now celebrates them - and fashion has become more inclusive than ever.

The rise of individuality and sustainable choices

As society grows wealthier and more aware, people seek not only to adapt but also to stand out. The media now shines with messages about authenticity and individuality, paving the way for diverse figures, skin tones, and clothing styles in the fashion world.

But with this great diversity comes abundance - and confusion. With so many choices, it’s easy to lose direction. Dress codes are dissolving, and priorities are shifting toward comfort, convenience, and values.

Today, true luxury is no longer gold-threaded gowns or famous brand names. It’s sustainably made linen clothing, crafted from natural fabrics and designed to last. Linen dresses and linen shirts represent a new form of luxury - rooted in quality, comfort and timeless elegance. Supporting local artisans and slow fashion has become a new status symbol for the conscious modern woman.

The new definition of luxury

Real luxury today is the ability to remain yourself - to preserve your authentic vision, make intentional choices, and choose what feels true to your heart.

The pandemic slowed us down and reminded us to re-evaluate not only our closets but our daily needs. It encouraged us to value what’s essential - the feel of natural fabrics, the comfort of well-cut linen clothing and the emotional connection we build with every piece we wear.

My personal approach to style

For me, style begins with natural materials - linen, cotton, silk - and the feeling they create on the skin. I look for quality, comfort, and silhouettes that bring joy. I study innovations carefully, because not everything new is better. I value local culture but love to mix it with aesthetic elements discovered abroad.

I reject more than I choose. I take items out of my shopping cart more often than I buy. When I do buy, I do it consciously, because my wardrobe isn’t endless - and my suitcase of adventures fits only what matters.

Every piece of clothing carries responsibility - toward the planet, the makers, and ourselves.

A reflection in the mirror

Before buying or wearing something new, take a moment to look in the mirror. Recognize which style elements feel timeless, and which are just passing trends. Authenticity is built on a foundation of quality - not only in how something looks, but also in how it feels, smells, and moves.

Take your time.

Stop more often and hear what your body, skin or glare in the mirror wants to tell you. Listen quietly to whether soft cotton or light linen clothing feels right, or if you feel better when you are lined with linen clothes or gently wrapped in silk. Choose what makes you feel free, not what’s momentarily fashionable.

Be kind, critical and conscious - toward yourself, others, and the world around you.

What is style, truly?

Be critical, but love, respect the environment and accept others and yourself with an open heart.

STYLE is not just about clothes. It consists of your lifestyle, posture, language style, hobbies. Style is complete harmony.
